In June 2009, shortly after I graduate from UC Berkeley and complete the AIDS LifeCycle, I will be beginning the trip of a life time. I plan to begin a 5,000+ mile cycling trip from Berkeley, California, to Astoria, Oregon, to Yorktown, Virginia. I anticipate the trip taking approximately three months and I will be using maps published by Adventure Cycling.
When I begin my ride I will be following the Pacific Coast map from Berkeley to Astoria, and then following the TransAmerican Trail from Astoria to Yorktown. I'll be carrying all of my supplies on my bike and will camp most nights. I'm hoping to average between 50 and 70 miles a day, depending on the terrain and the weather. I'm not in a tremendous rush - I plan to enjoy the scenery and enjoy my time "off the grid," so to speak.
Through this blog I'll be documenting all the research I do on gear, the route, the mental preparation, and the physical training I do leading up to the ride. In addition, when I'm on the ride, I'll be posting updates to the blog regularly.
Stay tuned for future updates!
